To ensure the next generation knows what to do in an emergency, the Government is planning to make health education compulsory in all state-funded schools in England from September 2020 and this includes basic first aid training.
The Student First Aid qualification will provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid treatment confidently and safely.
The qualification fulfils the requirements of the Department for Education in respect of first aid training. In addition, primary school students should be taught the concepts of basic first aid including how to make a clear and efficient call to the emergency services
A minimum of three contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities. Ideally, the course should be run over half a day (3 hours), but the syllabus can be divided into 3 x 1-hour sessions, spread over a 12-month period.
